Types of WINIW flame retardant synthetic leather
Material Structure Selection: Preventing Fire Hazards
Achieving high-grade flame retardancy requires selecting the right base polymers and backings. Below is how our different material structures are calibrated for flame performance:
Common applications of flame retardant synthetic leather

Used in seats and interiors of airplanes, trains, and subways to ensure passenger safety. Comply with strict fire safety standards such as FAR 25.853 (aviation) and EN 45545 (railway).

Used for seat and wall decoration to meet the high fire protection requirements of public places.

Used for conference room chairs and office desk panels to provide a safe and comfortable working environment.

Used for sofas, bedside and other furniture, taking into account both beauty and safety.

Used for fire protection covers and equipment housings to provide additional safety.
Custom FR Formulations for Global Markets
- Phosphorus-Nitrogen Synergistic Systems: Expands into an insulating char layer upon heat exposure, cutting off oxygen and heat transfer to the base fibers.
- Halogen-Free & DMF-Free Compliance: Fully compliant with EU REACH Annex XVII, California Proposition 65, and RoHS directives.
- Low Smoke & Low VOC Output: Meets German VDA 278 standards, guaranteeing zero volatile outgassing, zero toxic smell inside vehicle cabins, and zero windshield fogging (DIN 75201).
Our Closed-Loop Custom Engineering Process
- Standard Analysis: You provide your target regulatory or industry codes (e.g., IATF 16949, EN ISO 20345, BS 5852 Crib 5).
- Formulation Matching: Our laboratory adjusts polymer cross-linking density, UV stabilizers (HALS), plasticizer molecular weights, and backing fibers.
- Pilot Lab-Dip Production: We manufacture physical swatches matching your custom Pantone color and gloss levels within 7 to 10 days.
- On-Site Destructive Testing: Swatches undergo Wyzenbeek double rubs, tropical chamber hydrolysis, and vertical flammability tests to verify compliance.
- Traceable Mass Production: Once approved, volume production is completed within 15 to 20 days with strict batch-code traceability.
Sourcing Policy: MOQ, Lead Time, and Packaging
- Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): Our standard custom manufacturing MOQ for fire-retardant microfiber substrates is 300 linear meters per color and thickness. For standard PU or PVC formulations, the MOQ is 1,000 linear meters per color and thickness. For standard program stocks in black or white, we can dispatch trials starting from 100 linear meters to support your prototyping.
- Color Matching Consistency: Lot-to-lot color shading (ΔE) is a critical quality concern for automated assembly lines. Our laboratory utilizes automated gravimetric pigment dispensers and Datacolor spectrophotometers to maintain the overall color difference strictly under ΔE≤0.82 under standard D65 illuminants.
- Packaging and Transport: All bulk rolls are packed in dual-layer PE moisture-barrier roll wrapping with heavy-duty woven outer PP bags and labeled with unique traceable batch-code roll IDs.
Buyer Sourcing FAQs
Q: Can any WINIW material be made BS 5852 Crib 5 compliant?
A: BS 5852 Crib 5 is a severe vertical wood-crib flammability test. Standard lightweight PU (0.6mm) cannot pass this natively. Passing Crib 5 requires a thick substrate (typically ≥ 1.0mm) combined with high-density flame-retardant backing fabrics (woven polyester or non-woven matrix) and highly cross-linked surface polymers. Please specify your target standard when requesting swatches.
Q: Does adding fire-retardant chemicals degrade the physical strength of the leather?
A: Traditional flame retardants can weaken the tensile strength of polyurethane. At WINIW, we use micro-encapsulated synergistic additives and thermal cross-linking systems. This process maintains a high stitch tear strength (≥ 40 N under EN ISO 3377-2) and ensures the material survives over 100,000 Bally flex cycles without micro-cracking at the crease.
